Bedding

I have officially started my bedroom redo! Last night after my husband and I got home from work I decided it was time to use the money he gave me for my birthday to start my makeover. At 8:00 p.m. we decided to jet over to Bed bath and beyond to get the bedding I had picked out, but to my disappointment they didn't have it =(. My husband, being the smart man he is, made the brilliant suggestion to ask someone to look up if any stores in the area had it in stock. Luckily with 18 minutes until closing there was another store a few miles away that had it, so we were off!
I got my bedding with my bday money and my 20% off coupon and we were ready to roll. We got home about 9:30 and I stayed up until 1:00 washing the duvet and our down comforter ( I like to start fresh when I get something new). This morning I woke up and before I went to work I messed around a bit with pillow placement and what not, here was my first try

Not Obsessed. Although much better I am still not satisfied, the pillow situation needs a little updating, good thing I have a little more bday money =) stay tuned...

Headboard ideas

My last post I highlighted inspirational rooms and in that spawned a great idea for a headboard! The headboard in the below picture was made of what looked like painted wicker screens. While I love the look, im just not crazy about wicker and screens tend to be pretty pricy, so I began an online search and I found this wonderful lattice paneling that I can paint and mount as a headboard. This would look great in a high gloss orange! I am so excited to get started =)
Who knew Home Depot would have such artful lattice options, and its only $40.00

Inspiring colors

I have not updated my blog in a while because work has just been crazy! I think about it all the time and have so many posts I need to write up, but for now I just want to share some of my latest project ideas and inspirations.
The first photo is a photo I saw and I fell in love with. This headboard is a beautiful way to add color and interest, as well as being something I can create myself =)

This next photo is the duvet cover I have purchased that I think will go great with my lime green curtains and pillows

New Curtains

I am notorious for my horrible taste in movies and tv shows and there is this new show "Better with you" on ABC that I love. One of my favorite thing about family shows is paying attention to how the sets are decorated. In "Better with You" Mia and casey re-did a fire house and the curtains in their living room immediately became an obsession. I spent the entire episode searching for the curtains online and I finally found them =) They were at Cost plus world market. I ordered them 2 weeks ago and they are finally here. My house is a mess or I would post a pic right now, but for now I will just post the generic photo from the website =)

The after Shot: still need to re-work furniture, but it works for now.

turquoise obsession

I am a fair weather fan of Colorsplash on HGTV and last year David Bromstadt did a room with some elements I fell in love with. I am apprehensive to post a picture of the room, but I think since parts of it inspired me, you may also be able to draw something from it too.
Mostly I LOVED the turquoise credenza and ghost chairs. I also thought the china display was gorgeous! Ever since I saw this room I have been dead set on painting something turquoise. My husband really wasnt that into, but when my moms friend gave me an old table she did not want anymore I thought this was the perfect opportunity. The bummer is, I did this before I even thought about a blog so I don't have a before picture, but I would love to share the after! Now this is why I love home-made =)

A couch makeover

When the weather warms up our 4 year old puggle (Pepper) gets all itchy and spends the day scratching herself on the couch, gross I know. When I woke up this morning I started cleaning and the first thing I tackled was the couch. I removed all the back cushions, vacuumed the couch and then took soap and water to the seat cushions. After it had all dried I went to put the cushions back on and decided I needed a new couch. As I surveyed the rest of the house I made a mental list of all things that took priority over a new couch and realized, Not gonna happen...I did however have a Eureka moment and decided to gather every decorative pillow I have and as I set them up on the couch, voila a complete couch redesign. I had an initial pillow run through and decided to make a quick trip to Ikea in an attempt to make it look a little more cohesive. I will probably change the pillows a few times before I am happy with it, but here is what I have for now =)

couch Makeover (before)

Here is the couch before my brilliant moment this morning. =)

A new Chapter

There are so many blogs out there I am crazy to think I have anything interesting to say, but at the same time I am so OCD about my house and I am continually learning and trying new things it seems selfish to keep these things to myself.
My Husband and I got married in May of 2008 and in 2009 we bought our first house. We looked for a few months and finally found the house of our dreams...well no quite. The house we bought was a project to say the least. It was built in 1952 and I think it safe to say there were no updates made since. Before we could even move in we had to basically strip it down and start over. The catch was we only had 3 weeks! In 3 weeks we completely re-did 2 bathrooms, all new flooring, new paint, baseboards, doors and door casings, new light fixtures, new kitchen counters, kitchen hardware, sink. While we got all this done in 3 weeks we are far from done. We have lived here for 1 year and I feel like we are just beginning.
This is where our blog begins...
